Thomas Goltz (October 11, 1954 – July 29, 2023) was an American journalist, author, and foreign correspondent known for his coverage of post-Soviet conflicts in the Caucasus. A close friend of Azerbaijan, he wrote several acclaimed books, including Azerbaijan Diary, Chechnya Diary, Georgia Diary, and Türkiye Diary. The documentary Thomas Goltz: An Oil Odyssey follows his symbolic 2000 journey from Baku to Ceyhan on a Soviet-era motorcycle, retracing the path of the future BTC pipeline and reflecting on his legacy in the region.
